UK Shaolin Elite Sanda Junior Team – Training Hard for British Nationals 2026

Every Saturday from 1:30–2:30pm, the Shaolin studio fills with focus, energy, and determination as the UK Shaolin Elite Junior Sanda Team hits the mats.

Led by Shifu Martine Niven, this exceptional group of young martial artists, aged 9 to 17, is deep in preparation for the British Sanda Nationals, Summer 2026.

It may seem far off, but as Shifu Martine explains:
“The Nationals will be here before we know it. The work starts now.”

And the work is serious.

The team trains three or more times a week, learning advanced techniques, refining their skills, and building strength, focus, and discipline. Their training program is based on the structure of the official Chinese National Sanda Team, with whom Shifu Martine has trained extensively.

After years of direct coaching in China, she has brought that elite standard of teaching back to the UK. Plans are already underway to take some of the most dedicated team members to China next year, offering them the chance to train first-hand with top-level coaches and experience traditional Sanda at its source.

“They’re not just learning to fight,” Martine says.
“They’re learning discipline, commitment, and the power of showing up. I’m incredibly proud of what they bring to every session.”

Representing their school and county with pride, this journey is more than just about competition, it’s about personal growth, team spirit, and the honour of being part of something bigger.

The future of UK Sanda is rising, and it’s rising right here at UK Shaolin.
